Guests staying with us at the Badl for the first time often ask the same question: “What are the must-see places in the region?”
The answer is never easy. Not because there is too little to discover – quite the opposite. Around Hall in Tirol, you will find breathtaking mountain landscapes, crystal-clear lakes, historic old towns, and countless opportunities for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and those simply looking to relax and enjoy.
The best part? Many of these destinations can be reached within just 15 to 45 minutes from the Badl. That is exactly what makes Hall in Tirol such a perfect base for an unforgettable holiday in Tyrol.
In this article, we would like to share some of our personal favourites – and at the same time the places our guests return from time and time again full of enthusiasm. Whether you are looking for spectacular mountain views, idyllic lakes, family-friendly adventures, or charming towns, these ten destinations should definitely be on your Tyrol itinerary.
Glungezer – Tyrol at Its Most Beautiful
If we were allowed to recommend just one excursion, Glungezer would certainly be at the top of the list.
The journey itself is part of the experience. As the Glungezer cable car carries you up the mountain, breathtaking views of the Inn Valley begin to unfold. At the top, you are greeted by a stunning alpine landscape of ancient stone pine forests, lush mountain meadows, and fresh mountain air.
For families, the Kugelwald is an absolute highlight. This giant wooden marble run winding through the forest often keeps children entertained longer than any hike. Right next to it, Lake Zirben (Zirbensee) invites visitors to explore and play with its interactive water features and scenic surroundings.
If you enjoy hiking, the famous Zirbenweg should not be missed. Connecting Glungezer and Patscherkofel, it is considered one of the most beautiful panoramic trails in Tyrol. For more active visitors, it offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the region’s mountain scenery from a truly spectacular perspective.
My personal tip: If you would like to end your day on a particularly memorable note, don’t miss the popular evening cable car rides. Every Tuesday during the summer season, the Glungezer cable car operates into the evening hours. As the lights begin to twinkle in the valley below, you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, the fresh mountain air, and a sunset that will stay with you long after your holiday.
The combination of nature, family-friendly attractions, breathtaking views, and mountain hospitality makes Glungezer a perfect destination for visitors of all ages.
Lake Achensee – Tyrol’s Turquoise Jewel
Many of our guests can hardly believe that this stunning lake is only about a 30-minute drive from Hall in Tirol.
Often referred to as the “Tyrolean Sea,” Lake Achensee immediately lives up to its reputation the moment you catch sight of its crystal-clear turquoise waters. Nestled between the majestic Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges, Tyrol’s largest lake offers countless opportunities for a perfect day out.
One of the most popular excursions is the hike from Pertisau to the Gaisalm. The trail follows the shoreline and rewards hikers with breathtaking views of the lake at every turn. The Gaisalm mountain inn itself can only be reached on foot or by boat, making it one of the most unique and picturesque spots around the lake.
If you prefer not to hike back, simply return by boat and enjoy Achensee from a completely different perspective. This combination of hiking and a scenic boat cruise is one of the reasons why the excursion is so popular with our guests.
On warm summer days, don’t forget to bring your swimsuit. The crystal-clear water offers a wonderfully refreshing escape from the heat and makes Lake Achensee one of our absolute favourite summer destinations.
The Historic Old Town of Hall in Tirol
Sometimes the most beautiful places are right on your doorstep.
The historic centre of Hall in Tirol is one of the largest and best-preserved medieval old towns in Austria. Winding alleyways, charming squares, colourful façades, and impressive buildings tell the story of a time when Hall became one of Tyrol’s most important towns thanks to the salt trade.
One of the best ways to experience Hall is simply to wander without a plan. Around almost every corner, you’ll discover a new photo opportunity, a cosy café, or a charming little shop waiting to be explored.
Our tip: Take some time to enjoy an aperitif on the Oberer Stadtplatz, the heart of the old town. My personal favourite spot is Wurstkultur. Sitting back with a drink, watching everyday life unfold in the square, and soaking up the historic atmosphere is one of my favourite ways to end a holiday afternoon.
And for younger visitors, Hall offers a very special adventure. Equipped with a puzzle booklet and a sense of curiosity, children can set off on a treasure hunt through the old town. Along the way, history, culture, and play come together in a fun and engaging way. Hidden corners, fascinating stories, and little secrets of the city are waiting to be discovered – and by the end of the adventure, children are often the biggest Hall experts in the family.
Swarovski Crystal Worlds
Just a few minutes from the Badl, you’ll find one of Tyrol’s most famous attractions.
The Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens have been captivating visitors from around the globe for decades. Inside, a series of extraordinary Chambers of Wonder combines art, light, imagination, and crystal in fascinating ways. Each room offers a unique experience, making every visit both inspiring and memorable.
Families especially love the spacious garden, which features a large play tower, a carousel, and plenty of opportunities for children to explore and discover. It is also an excellent option on days when the weather is less than perfect, offering a wonderful alternative to a day in the mountains.
A very special highlight awaits visitors during the summer of 2026. From July 10 to August 30, the world-renowned Circus Theatre Roncalli will bring its production “Bonjour Paris!” to Swarovski Crystal Worlds. Combining breathtaking acrobatics, live music, poetry, and spectacular open-air performances, this unique event promises an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
Whether you are interested in art, architecture, family activities, or simply looking for something truly unique, Swarovski Crystal Worlds is a destination that never fails to impress.
Patscherkofel – Innsbruck’s Family Mountain
Patscherkofel perfectly combines breathtaking alpine scenery with family-friendly adventures, making it one of the most popular excursion destinations near Innsbruck.
A particular favourite among families is the Kofele Quiz Trail. Along the route, children accompany the little character Kofele on his journey to visit the beekeeper, solving fun puzzles and challenges along the way. What might otherwise be a simple hike quickly turns into an exciting adventure for young explorers.
In addition, the mountain offers several easy walking and hiking trails suitable for all ages. At the valley station, the Kofele playground is another highlight and often the first stop for families before even boarding the cable car.
For a truly memorable experience, consider visiting during one of the popular evening rides. Every Thursday, the Patscherkofel cable car operates until 11:00 pm. As the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains and the Inn Valley is bathed in golden evening light, the landscape reveals a side of Tyrol that is simply unforgettable.
Whether you're travelling with children, looking for a leisurely walk, or simply hoping to enjoy spectacular panoramic views, Patscherkofel is a wonderful destination for the whole family.
Halltal & St. Magdalena
If you would like to experience Tyrol in its most authentic and unspoilt form, a day in the Halltal Valley should definitely be on your itinerary.
Once one of Tyrol’s most important salt mining areas, Halltal played a significant role in shaping the history and prosperity of Hall in Tirol. Even today, traces of this fascinating past can be discovered along the trails, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage.
The hike to St. Magdalena is considered one of the most beautiful walks in the area. The trail winds through a spectacular natural landscape of towering rock faces, rushing mountain streams, and stunning panoramic views.
At the end of the route, visitors are rewarded with the charming former pilgrimage church of St. Magdalena. It is one of those special places where people naturally slow down and stay a little longer than planned. On warm summer days in particular, the peaceful atmosphere and surrounding mountain scenery create a sense of calm that is hard to forget.
For those seeking a combination of nature, history, and tranquillity, Halltal and St. Magdalena offer an unforgettable glimpse into the heart of Tyrol.
Serlesbahnen Mieders
The Serlesbahnen in Mieders are among the most popular family excursion destinations in Tyrol – and for good reason.
After the cable car ride, visitors are greeted by a large adventure and water park, easy hiking trails, and countless opportunities for children to play and explore. While younger guests can happily spend hours discovering the various attractions, adults can relax and enjoy the magnificent views of the Stubai Alps.
To round off the day, the summer toboggan run provides an exciting ride back down into the valley. For many children, this thrilling descent is the highlight of the entire excursion.
A perfect destination for families looking to combine nature, outdoor activities, and plenty of fun in one unforgettable day.
Hexenwasser Söll
Hexenwasser is one of those places that is difficult to describe – it simply has to be experienced.
Everything here revolves around water, nature, and playful discovery. Children can walk barefoot through streams, experiment at interactive water stations, and explore the mountain landscape using all their senses.
What makes Hexenwasser so special is that it is much more than a playground in the mountains. It is an imaginative adventure world designed to inspire curiosity and wonder in both children and adults.
Many families easily spend an entire day here without ever getting bored. That is exactly why Hexenwasser has become one of Tyrol’s most beloved family attractions.
Lama Trekking on Wattenberg
One of our most personal and unique excursion recommendations.
Every Friday during the summer season, guests of the Hall-Wattens region can join “Lama Papa” Hans and his friendly llamas for a guided walk through the forests of Wattenberg as part of the regional summer activity programme.
Along the way, participants learn fascinating facts about these gentle animals while experiencing nature from a completely different perspective. Children especially love the opportunity to meet the llamas up close and spend time with them.
It is a wonderfully relaxing experience that encourages you to slow down, connect with nature, and create lasting memories – the kind of excursion people often talk about long after their holiday has ended.
Walderalm
The Walderalm is one of our absolute favourite places in the region.
Whether you choose to hike or take an e-bike, the journey itself is part of the experience. The route is beautiful from start to finish, and with an e-bike, the tour can easily be done directly from the Badl, making it a perfect choice for an active day in the mountains.
At the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views across the Inn Valley, as well as a welcoming mountain hut with a sunny terrace serving delicious regional specialities.
Many of our guests tell us afterwards that these are the moments they remember most from their holiday: enjoying a traditional Tyrolean snack, breathing in the fresh mountain air, and feeling completely removed from the rush of everyday life.
What makes the Hall-Wattens region truly special is its incredible variety. Within a very short distance, you can stroll through a beautifully preserved medieval old town, walk along the shores of a crystal-clear mountain lake, relax at a traditional alpine hut, discover a giant wooden marble run hidden in the forest with your children, or lose track of time while trekking with llamas through the mountains.
