My 3 Favorite Hikes
Tyrol offers countless beautiful hiking trails – but some stand out in particular. My personal highlights are the Zirbenweg from Glungezer to Patscherkofel, the hike to Walderalm, and the tour to Rinneralm. These trails offer stunning natural experiences, breathtaking views, and are perfect for anyone who loves being in the mountains.
The Zirbenweg – A Panoramic Trail with Alpine Charm
The Zirbenweg is one of the most beautiful panoramic hikes in Tyrol. It runs at an altitude of around 2,000 meters along the mountain range above Innsbruck and connects Glungezer with Patscherkofel. The cable cars operate from the end of May to the end of October.
Starting point: Glungezerbahn mountain station
End point: Patscherkofelbahn mountain station
Length: approx. 7 km
Duration: approx. 2.5 – 3 hours
One of the most impressive features of this trail is the passage through one of the oldest stone pine forests in Europe. The gnarled stone pine trees give off a unique scent and offer welcome shade on sunny days. Along the way, you’ll enjoy magnificent views of the Inn Valley and the surrounding peaks. The tour is perfect for combining with a stop at one of the mountain huts along the route.
I personally love stopping at the Schützenhaus on Patscherkofel to treat myself to an apple strudel with vanilla sauce before heading back down into the valley.
And the best part: the Glungezer and Patscherkofel cable cars are easily accessible via bus 540, which departs and returns right in front of our doorstep.

Hike to the Walderalm – Natural Idyll with Alpine Charm
The hike to the Walderalm is a real insider tip for anyone looking for a relaxed tour with breathtaking panoramic views.
Starting point: Parking lot in Gnadenwald – also accessible by bus
Length: approx. 5 km
Duration: approx. 2 hours
Elevation gain: approx. 600 meters
The well-maintained forest road leads through dense woods and eventually opens up to a stunning alpine pasture dotted with traditional wooden huts. The Walderalm is serviced and invites hikers to take a delightful break and enjoy some Tyrolean specialties. One of the most impressive highlights is the view of the Karwendel mountains rising majestically in the background.
A little tip: Be sure to try the Kaspressknödel (cheese dumplings) – they’re absolutely delicious!
Rinneralm – A Short and Lovely Hike
If you're looking for a relaxed half-day tour, the hike to the Rinneralm is perfect.
Starting point: Parking lot in Rinn
Length: approx. 3 km
Duration: approx. 1.5 hours
Elevation gain: approx. 450 meters
The trail leads through beautiful meadows and forests to the cozy Rinneralm, where you’ll be treated to delicious homemade specialties. Thanks to the manageable distance, this hike is also ideal for families.
My tip: If you're out and about on the weekend, it's worth making a stop at the Zuckerschmiede in the center of Rinn afterwards – it's my absolute favorite patisserie.
